Turn the screws. They always turn the screws a little tighter to get a little more from this machine. Win or lose, debts keep building up beyond our means as if we're not already on our knees. Drowning from our own leaks. While we're busy swatting flies, they're tying them to strings. When we try to set things right, the scale doesn't swing. So we just choke down the water cause we can't look them in the eyes. We just choke down the water to avoid the furies in our own hell and they know it all too well. We are the mark and the shill in a grift of wits against wills. And what's worse is that in this con, we con ourselves. It takes one mistake before your voice and theirs sounds the same and you, you'll do anything to ease the blame. Just one and they've got you in their pocket. Convinced that this is where you must stay. Then they turn the screws. They turn the screws even tighter and they take you for everything you've got. Win or lose. At two to one the odds just aren't with out. And you'll end up in the same place. Making amends and getting played. You're always a mark cause we can't stand to watch the balance swing.
